The absolute paramount rules are: Never exceed the crane’s rated capacity (overloading) and never pull or lift a load at an angle. Overloading creates excessive structural stress risking failure, while angled lifting generates dangerous destabilizing forces. Always ensure the load is lifted and moved vertically directly below the hook.
Daily inspection focus must be on critical components and safety systems. Thoroughly examine wire ropes, hooks, brakes, structural elements, and limit switches for wear, damage, or deformation. Crucially, verify the immediate operational readiness of all essential safety devices (including Load Moment Indicator, Load Limiter, Hoist Limit Switches). Follow prescribed schedules and immediately tag-out the crane if defects are found.
Beyond basic competence, operators must possess valid certification specific to the crane type, gained through accredited professional training. This ensures deep understanding of the crane's capabilities, strict adherence to safe operating procedures, knowledge of relevant regulations, and demonstrated ability to assess risks and respond effectively in emergencies. Formal certification and unwavering compliance are fundamental legal and safety requirements.
